The camel is an animal, which is perfectly adapted to the desert's climate. Its anatomy was an inspiration for the design of the dsu. Due to the flat, oval shape of its body, only a small area of the camel is facing the sun at high-noon.

Long legs lift the body and head into layers of cool air, escaping surface temperatures, that can reach up to 75' C.

The membrane of the unit can be opened and closed depending on the outside conditions. Temperatures in the desert are during the morning and the evening hours quit moderate, so the membrane can be fully opened. In periods of great heat or sandstorms, the membrane is closed and the unit is air-conditioned.

The dsu is anchored on a ball-bearing. It enables the unit to turn with the wind, because like a flag only its narrow side faces the direction of the wind. Especially in windy locations like the desert, this is of great importance.
